Thousands of displaced families in dilapidated tents in and around Marib are facing harsh winter unless there are urgent interventions, according to local authority,
In a press statement, the Executive Unit for Managing Displacement Camps Unit reported that on the ground reports forewarn of a humanitarian catastrophe affecting children, women, and the elderly, who face immense hardship with the onset of winter and intensifying cold, without blankets or adequate heating means.
The statement noted that previous years witnessed deaths among children and the elderly due to severe cold and the lack of sufficient humanitarian support, warning of a repeat of the tragedy this year unless swift action is taken to meet essential needs.
The Executive Unit called on government and all donor entities and humanitarian organizations to quickly implement urgent winter interventions, including providing winter clothes, blankets, heating materials, insulation, floor mats, and safety tools, prioritizing the most affected camps and families.
It emphasized that any delay in the response would mean more suffering for vulnerable groups who have nothing but hope for God’s help and the support of humanitarian partners, expressing a wish that this winter becomes a season of warmth and mercy, not cold and suffering.
According to official reports, Marib Governorate hosts 62% of the displaced persons across Yemen. The Executive Unit records nearly 3 million displaced individuals in more than 197 displacement camps.
In a previous report, the Executive Unit stated that the number of people living outside camps had reached 1,575,731 individuals by the end of last year, equivalent to three times the number of displaced persons in camps.
