The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is scheduled to convene its regular meeting on Yemen at the end of next week to review the latest political, military, and humanitarian developments.

According to the Council’s provisional program, members will meet on Thursday, February 12, beginning with an open session followed by closed consultations.

UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg and a representative from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will deliver briefings during the open session, covering political, security, and humanitarian updates.

In the closed consultations, Council members are expected to address key issues, including the continued deadlock in the political process, concerns over escalating hostilities that could reignite full-scale conflict, and the worsening humanitarian situation.

Discussions will also highlight the sharp cuts in funding and restrictions on aid access, particularly in Houthi-controlled areas, where 73 UN staff remain arbitrarily detained, three of whom have been referred to a special criminal court on charges linked to their duties. The Council will also examine the detention of dozens of NGO workers and staff from diplomatic missions.

James Kariuki (United Kingdom), whose country holds the 15-member organ’s rotating presidency for February, said on Monday that The Council’s annual police commissioners’ meeting will take place on 5 February, and mandated meetings will be held on Yemen
