Report: 2.7 million children in Yemen out of school

 Years of conflict, poverty, and the COVID-19 pandemic have left 2.7 million children in Yemen out of school and severely damaged education infrastructure, according to a recent report published by the United Nations agency for children (UNICEF).

The report found that female illiteracy remains high, and early childhood enrollment is only 0.5 percent, urging urgent investment in education to restore access, support teachers, reduce inequality, and advance progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education.

The report added that “According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) results for May–August 2025 2 , 49% of Yemen's population (17.1 million people) are experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 and above).
