During the first ten days of November 2025, Yemen will transition to a cooler, drier weather pattern, according to a report published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The report, developed by FAO in collaboration with the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority (CAMA), the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation/Fishery (MAI/F), with financial support from the European Union and the World Bank., added that “While the expected below average rainfall and localized low temperatures are favorable for the current summer crop harvest, these conditions will hinder the planting of winter cereals. Water stress is expected to persist, and the decline in pasture will likely lead to a slight deterioration of livestock conditions”.

Based on the weather projections, several implications for agricultural livelihoods are anticipated, therefore the report recommend certain actions and coping Strategies:

1.            To Authorities (Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MAIF)):

• Promote soil moisture conservation and timely sowing in the highlands.

• Enhance pest surveillance and implement early warning systems in coastal areas.

• Enforce efficient irrigation practices and regulate groundwater use in dry zones.

2.            To Local Agricultural Offices and Extension Services:

• Advise farmers on optimal planting schedules and promote drought-tolerant crops.

• Conduct training sessions on pest control and water management.

• Support fodder conservation initiatives to reduce livestock feed shortages.

3.            For Livestock and Veterinary Services:

• Provide guidance on managing cold stress and ensuring water access for animals.

• Maintain community watering points and monitor animal health.

4.            To Fisheries Associations and Coastal Authorities:

• Utilize favorable sea conditions for safe, sustainable fishing activities

• Improve fish storage and processing facilitates to reduce post-harvest losses.

5.            To Humanitarian and Development Partners (i.e.: FAO):

• Strengthen community early warning systems and risk communication
