In partnership with the League of Arab States (LAS), the Analysis and Outreach Hub of the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict in Doha, convened a regional workshop on “Child Protection and Education in Armed Conflict for Member States of the League of Arab States”.
The workshop took place on 29–30 September 2025 in Cairo, Egypt, with the technical support of UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen, UNICEF’s MENA Regional Office, and the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA).
The forum brought together more than 30 participants from across the region, including government officials responsible for child protection from Ministries of Social Affairs and Education, to deepen their understanding of the Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) agenda and its implementation to safeguard children in conflict zones.
The initiative reflects the continued commitment by the League of Arab States to address key components of the CAAC agenda and the Six Grave Violations against Children.
It also aligns with Article 38 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Arab League’s Comprehensive Plan to Curb the Recruitment of Children in Armed Conflicts.
Through interactive sessions, participants exchanged innovative practices and discussed challenges and opportunities in child protection and education. They also learned about the global child-participatory campaign, “Prove It Matters”, developed by OSRSG CAAC to empower children’s voices in the protection of their rights.
The workshop laid the groundwork for the policymakers to develop policies and practical recommendations to enhance rehabilitation and reintegration efforts for children affected by conflict while ensuring their access to education in fragile environments.
