Members of the United Nations Security Council have reaffirmed their strong commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and their full support for international efforts to end the conflict and achieve lasting peace.

At the same time, they The UN Security Council members called on the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to halt escalation and refrain from taking steps that would complicate the political landscape.

They reiterated their support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen and their commitment to working collectively towards a comprehensive political solution that brings lasting peace and prosperity to the Yemeni people.

The Council members stressed that continued escalation in Yemen, including recent developments (in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra), does not contribute to any progress towards a political settlement. Instead, it complicates the situation and increases civilian suffering. They called on all parties, including the Southern Transitional Council, to prioritize dialogue and adhere to the political track.

In a related context, Security Council members expressed their grave condemnation of the Houthi rebels’ continued detention of staff from the United Nations system, national and international non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions.

The Council demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees, emphasizing that any threats targeting humanitarian workers are unacceptable and directly contribute to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
