The European Union and the Studies and Economic Media Centre (SEMC) organized a two-day fact-checking workshop in Taiz from 1 to 2 December 2025.

The workshop brought together more than 100 journalists, fact-checkers, digital media practitioners, and representatives of local media outlets.

The sessions focused on strengthening participants’ ability to verify information, counter misinformation, and promote responsible journalism.

They covered practical verification tools, digital analysis techniques, and approaches to address the growing challenges posed by disinformation in Yemen’s media landscape.

Participants also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between media institutions and fact-checking platforms, as well as outlining elements of a national roadmap to curb disinformation. The workshop concluded with practical recommendations reflecting the participants’ priorities for fostering a more professional and trustworthy media environment.

This workshop highlights the EU’s commitment to supporting media freedom, reliable information, and the vital role of journalists in advancing public accountability.

The participants in the workshop approved a Charter of Principles to Combat Disinformation,  based on respect for truth and adherence to credibility and includes core principles and goals aimed at promoting transparency, professional responsibility, protecting the public from false information, rejecting hate speech, violence, and incitement, and supporting independent and professional media as a pillar of societal stability.
