Local sources reported that Houthi rebels elements have been carrying out large-scale excavation operations for several days in mountainous areas of al-Sayani district, south of Yemen’s Ibb governorate.
Witnesses said the works involve digging deep tunnels and fortified passages intended for military use.
Residents expressed concern over the heavy machinery and armed presence accompanying the operations, noting that the construction has disrupted daily life and heightened fears of militarization in the region.
The tunnels are believed to be part of the Houthis’ broader strategy to strengthen defensive positions and conceal weapons stockpiles amid ongoing conflict.
The activity underscores the group’s continued focus on entrenching its military infrastructure in central Yemen.
